Assessment of the curriculum
Our curriculum design and pedagogy is based on Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction.
These Principles are derived from research theories in cognitive science, classroom practices of master teachers and cognitive support to help student learn complex tasks.
Each curriculum component will build up to create sequences of learning by developing schemas of knowledge that create composites or an end goal.
Plugging knowledge deficits, which can accumulate when layered on one another, can create cumulative dysfluency. Therefore, our curriculum aims to ensure that our pupils develop a strong grasp of the key learning skills in English and mathematics. It is equally important for us to deliver a curriculum that not only underpins the knowledge children need to help them in the next stage of their education and future employment or destination but also equip them with the attitudes, behaviours and aspirations they need to succeed. This is effectively supported through the Oasis ethos is rooted in what we believe and who we are. It is an expression of our character; a set of values that inform and provide the lens on everything we do. Our values include a passion to include; a desire to create people equally, respecting differences; a commitment to healthy and open relationships; a deep sense of hope that things can be changed and a sense of perseverance to keep going for the long haul. Our Oasis 9 Habits (compassionate, patient, humble, joyful, honest, hopeful, considerate, forgiving and self-controlled) are skilfully woven through our curriculum and play an integral part in our academy.
Equipping pupils with the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life is a fundamental cornerstone of our curriculum; where essential knowledge that pupils need to be educated citizens, introducing them to the best that has been thought and said and helping to engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement.

At Oasis Watermead, it is our intention for the extra-curricular provision we provide is to add depth and breadth to our curriculum and enable our pupils to experience a range of different sporting activities and hobbies. We successfully achieve this through our menu of after school and extra-curricular opportunities. This provision is accessible and offered to all children with disadvantaged pupils taking priority places.
